Hardware and Software Setup¶
This section provides answers to queries about the hardware and software setup for running OMF.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How are the resources in the OMF testbed configured? | The resources in the OMF testbed do not follow any specific arrangement. They are located arbitrarily. |
| What operating system do the resources run? | The general recommendation is that they run a Debian flavour of Linux. For more details, read the Prerequisites section. |
| Can I run my own operating system? | Yes, you can install your own OS (or a customized version of an OMF-supported OS) on any of the resources. We provide infrastructure to image the resource in an experiment with any experimenter provided OS. |
| Can I load my own software packages on my resources? | Yes! If have one or more software packages that are appropriate for loading on the OS you have selected, you can arrange to have them loaded automatically when you configure your experiment. You may specify a different list of software packages for each resource in the experiment. There are no restrictions on what you put on the resources. |
| Are Linux sources and packages available locally? | Yes. Packages are mainly provided for GNU/Debian Linux, but sources are also available that should compile on most distributions. |
